The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor directly supervises three employees in the Shipping and Receiving area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; providing input for performance appraisals; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsibilities

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, distribution lists and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
  • Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.  Schedules inbound and outbound dock appointments.
  • Organizes optimal and safe loading of trucks with multiple deliveries effectively planned.
  • Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, DOT loading requirements and company controls.  Seals loaded truck doors.
  • Inspects material handling equipment (pallet jacks, dollies, lifts) and oversees maintenance.
  • Ensures forklift and order picker pre-use inspections take place.
  • Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
  • Maintains inventory accuracy by conducting cycle counts, submits barcode requests and other inventory maintenance tasks.
  • Compiles records of unfilled orders.  Creates and updates transfer setups according to existing distribution lists and guidance from Logistics.
  • Prepares bills of lading.
  • Issues written and oral instructions to warehouse crew.
  • Studies workflow to standardize procedures to improve efficiency of processes.
  • Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
  • Prepares reports on warehouse and spare parts activities.
  • Investigates and district complaints and resolves issues.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or at least one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software; TSE Inventory software; Order processing systems; Payroll systems; Excel Spreadsheet software and MSWord Word Processing software.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
